Mournful Elegy (2)
Description
Xuan Yu hopes that you can recite the mournful elegy for the souls of the fallen together with him.
He speaks the first half of the couplet - 'The coffin lid is closed, sorrowful is my dream,' and you continue with the second half - 'A sword I offer as gift and bow in reverence.'
The work is called 'Elegy for the Talented Sons' (Lou Yao (1137-1213), Southern Song Dynasty) and reads in full:
Why does anyone need posthumous glory?
People perish - again sorrow rules the heart.
The coffin lid is closed, sorrowful is my dream,
A sword I offer as gift and bow in reverence.
How dare we judge someone's good or evil?
To understand what was and is - that is enough for me.
Years of grief - the feeling carved as if by inheritance,
A cypress forest has risen by the neighboring graves.
