World Exploration
The exploration system of the three Roots of the World Tree: colonies, campfires, scenic spots, dew drops, puzzles and story starts — every one of the 228 activities with its coordinates.
Overview
The Roots of the World Tree carry their own exploration system, separate from the story. Comb the marked areas, finish the small tasks scattered across them, and the Exploration bar fills up. Fill it and the Root hands you its title.
Open the system from the button on the continent map. Bonfire teleports you have unlocked appear on that same map. Once you are standing inside an area that has World Exploration tasks, small markers show up on the closest zoom level of the map and on the minimap — that is how you find the tasks themselves.
The six kinds of task
| Task | What you do |
|---|---|
| A colony of monsters guards a treasure here. Kill enough of them and a key drops on the ground — pick it up, dig up the chest, then open the treasure from your bag. | |
| Talk to the teleport stone to activate it. From then on you can jump to any activated campfire from anywhere on the Western Continent, as long as you are not in combat. The jump has a 15 second cooldown. | |
| A glowing blue dew drop is hidden here. You have to find it and dig it up. It is only visible with graphics effects switched on. | |
| Stand on the spot and the camera swings into view mode on its own. When the shot settles, press the camera button and take the picture. | |
| Small riddle tasks. Each area carries several different kinds, and each kind repeats in several places. | |
| Special NPCs belonging to the area's main plot. The task counts as done when you finish the piece of the story chain that belongs to them. |
On a Scenery task, if you do not press the camera button the task is not credited and stays in your quest log. Cancel it and step onto the spot again.
Time of day and weather
Some tasks are only available under certain conditions. The condition is checked while your character is inside the area, and when it changes a red notice goes out in chat across the whole Western Continent.
| Condition | How long | How to tell |
|---|---|---|
| Day | 8 hours | Fixed for the area — your own timezone and the in-game clock next to the minimap have no effect on it. Read it off the sky: daytime is bright and the sun is up, and the sky darkens as the eight hours run out. |
| Night | 8 hours | Same fixed cycle. At night the sky is dark and the moon is out, growing lighter towards the end. |
| Rain | 5 minutes every 2 hours | Weather, and it can fall in either day or night. Raindrops are visible on screen. |
| Clear | 1 hour 55 minutes, with a 5 minute break | Weather. No extra animation on screen. If you arrive during rain you can simply wait it out. |
Points, rewards and titles
Every task you finish gives a small bundle of items plus exploration points. The points add up along a single bar, and passing each threshold unlocks a reward you claim from the event window on the Western Lands map.
| Task | Points |
|---|---|
| Monsters | 20 |
| Story | 95 |
| Puzzles | 20 – 50, depending on the puzzle |
| Search | 10 |
| Campfire | 5 |
| Scenery | 5 |
The bar tops out at 2,000 points. The reward ladder is the same on all three Roots — only the title at the top differs.
| Points | Reward |
|---|---|
| 100 | Oracle Stone x10 |
| 300 | Bell of Garment x1 |
| 700 | Dragon Tamer Lasso x1 |
| 1,000 | Royal Glow Fan x1 |
| 1,500 | Destiny Stone x10 |
| 2,000 | The Root's title |
| Root | Title |
|---|---|
| The First Root | Carefree Fate |
| The Second Root | Friend of Giants |
| The Third Root | Ragnarok |
These are the exploration titles, and they are not the same as the titles you get for finishing each Root's story chain — those are Prologue of Destiny, Giant's best friend and Ragnarök. It is easy to mix the two up, since one pair even shares a name.
How to go about it
There is no single right approach. You can simply fly around and pick up whatever you run into, or set aside time and work through an area in order, or mix the two and keep this page open as you go. The lists below are grouped so you can open just the part you are working on.
Every coordinate on this page is a button — click it to copy, then paste it into the in-game map to auto-path there.
The story tasks are listed here only with their names and starting points. The walkthroughs themselves live in the Sealed Sky Quest Chain guide, which you can open from the guide index.
The First Root
World Exploration here opens at level 102 with Rising Sky 1. The area holds 74 activities, and some of them depend on the time of day.
Finish everything here and the area completes the Prologue of Destiny world story and hands you the Carefree Fate title.
Monsters
All sorts of creatures live on the Roots of the World Tree, but now and then a colony grows large enough to start harming the Tree itself. Clear it out. Killing the colony drops a key on the ground — pick it up, dig up the chest it belongs to, then open the treasure from your bag.
| Colony | Location | Key it drops |
|---|---|---|
| Kill Emerald Dragon Colony | Emerald Dragon Treasure Keys | |
| Kill the Flower Genie Colony | Flower Genie Treasure Key | |
| Kill the Tree Seed Genie | Tree Seed Genie Treasure Key | |
| Kill the World Spirit Colony | ||
| Kill Horned Deer Colony | Horned Deer Treasure Key | |
| Kill the Sjesu Vine Colony | Sjesu Vine Treasure Key |
Campfires
Campfires are the fastest way around the area. Talk to the teleport stone to light one; from then on its icon sits on the area map and you can jump to it from anywhere, as long as you are neither in combat nor dead. You arrive outside the safe zone, and the jump has a 15 second cooldown.
View Points
There is no shortage of views here. Find the spot with the best angle — it is marked with an eye icon — and take the photograph. Stand on it and the camera swings into view mode by itself; when the shot settles, press the camera button.
World Exploration Points
Dew drops are scattered all over the Roots, and every one of them hides something worth having. They sit on scenery at all sorts of heights and are invisible with graphics effects switched off. Each one pays out only once. The reward is a Nebula Dust Orb, which raises your luck.
Puzzles
Riddle tasks are accepted through the World Event window — the same one the title chains use. There are six kinds here, five of each. If one goes wrong you can cancel it and take it again.
Explor. Ring of Sacrifice
Explor. Road of Soulcough
Explor.The power of magnetism
